Rhys Brimless Child Size Beanie: Free Crochet Pattern

I loved the texture of the Rhys Brimless Beanie so much I decided to do a child size pattern. You can find the blog post with the free patterns for the adult sizes here.

Use the Easy Guide to Sizing Crochet Hats below to slightly adjust the child size pattern to fit the size you need for a specific age. See the Notes section of the pattern for instructions.

Notes

  • This pattern uses American Standard Terms.
  • The chains at the beginning of each row do not count as a stitch.
  • When you are working the repeat rounds, be sure to place your SC in the previous round’s SC and place your DC in the previous round’s DC. When starting a new round, I always work by first ST in the same ST as the CH 1. You do not have to do this, but be consistent with which ST you work your first ST for each round throughout the pattern.
  • I am a tight crocheter so be sure to use measurements or gauge swatch. Gauge is really not important as long as you measure as you make your beanie.
  • This beanie is worked from the top down and it is very simple to make the size you want. Using my Easy Guide to Sizing Crochet Hats you will:
    • Find the size you are needing on the chart.
    • Look under the column “Crown Diameter” to find the inches you will need for the increase rounds.
    • Work the increased rounds in the pattern until you reach the crown diameter needed for the size you want to make.
    • Once you reach the crown diameter size, you will refer to the chart again and find the “Hat Height” column.
    • Work the repeat rounds until your hat measures about 0.5 inches from your desired height.
    • Work the last two rounds of the pattern to get your hat to the desired height.

I knew I wanted to design this beanie with a solid colored yarn. It really shows off the simple texture. Once I finished the first beanie, I had to see it in a variegated yarn. The texture of the beanie really shows off the colors in variegated yarns. I feel like you can’t go wrong either way.

The brimless beanies have really grown on me. The Rhys Beanies simple textured design makes it great for men, women, and kids.
