Free Crochet Pattern: Country Bumpkin Cup Cozy

I am so happy to share the Country Bumpkin Cup Cozy with you! The name isn’t the only thing fun about this pattern. It’s quick and easy to make and full of texture.

Fall is almost here and with it comes cooler days and hotter drinks. The Country Bumpkin Cup Cozy will keep your hands cozy and cool while you sip your hot coffee or tea. Plus it’s super cute and perfect for Fall.

When I first designed this cozy pattern, I had solid colors in mind. They really show off the textured stitches, but my color-loving self just couldn’t help grabbing some variegated yarn and whipping up cozy real quick so I could see the difference.

I was not disappointed! While the solid color shows off the texture; the texture shows off the different colors in the variegated yarns. And now I need to make more! Your color options are endless with this pattern. Change up the colors to make holiday-themed cozies or seasonal cozies.

This cozy just screams Fall to me. I am normally not drawn to reds, oranges, and yellows but something switches in my brain when Fall hits and all of the sudden am I all about those colors.

These cozies will make great gifts and great market items to add to your shop or market.

I was recently out of town and I was able to get some Starbucks coffee, which is always a treat because I don’t live near any coffee shops. I knew we were going to be near one so I threw one of these cozies in my purse. I love how handy they are and they don’t take up a lot of space in my purse. Also, they work way better than the thin cardboard ones that are offered at coffee shops plus they are reusable. It’s a win win.

I really like to use these on my stainless steel cups as well. Especially in the cooler months when I don’t like the feel of the cold cup in my hands.

The pattern is written for a cozy that will fit a 16 oz reusable tumbler or Starbucks cup. You can easily adjust it to fit any size you need.

Notes
  • This pattern uses American Standard Terms.
  • The chains at the beginning of each round do not count as a stitch.
  • For this pattern, you will NOT chain 1 after your puff stitch.
  • My finished cozy laid flat measures 6 inches tall and 3 inches wide across the bottom. I measured after I tried it on my cup so it is slightly stretched.
  • I am a tight crocheter so you will want to gauge swatch or work the pattern based on measurements.
  • The cozy may be a little tight the first time you put it on your cup, but it will stretch out some.
  • You can adjust this pattern to fit any cup:
    • Measure your cup at the widest point where your cozy will be.
    • FHDC until your work is about 0.5 inches from that width. Be sure your FHDC is an even number.
    • For a taller cup cozy, repeat rounds 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 & 8 in that order until you reach your desired height.
  • After working Round 3, check to see that your cozy fits around your cup before continuing the pattern.
