Free Crochet Pattern: Sunshine Coffee Cozy

I have a quick and fun crochet pattern to share with you. If you love coffee and crochet, you are going to love the Sunshine Coffee Cozy. These are crochet coffee cozies are great for hot or cold drinks.

I love quick and simple makes especially in the warmer months where there just seems to be more going on and you have less and less time to crochet.

These cozies are great because they keep your hand from being hot when you are drinking hot coffee. And in the summer months, when you are drinking your ice cold coffee or iced tea you don’t have to handle a sweaty cup.

This quick and easy make is ideal for crocheters at any skill level. If you are looking for an item to add to your market inventory, these are perfect because they don’t require a lot of time or yarn.

Your options are endless with these. From making them in a variety of pretty colors to always having a gift handy. How perfect are these for teacher gifts? Add a reusable tumbler filled with candy or a coffee gift card and there is a quick, thoughtful gift.

I have a local Bistro that serves piping hot coffee and I carried my cozy with me to save my hands and my coffee so I wouldn’t drop it. Well, she asked me about making some coffee cozies for her to sell in her store. As you can tell, I have had a lot of fun with these coffee cozies.

I love the way the stitches in this pattern look together so I have started a Sunshine Collection of patterns. Check out these other free patterns on my blog Sunshine Rug Mug and check out the pattern that started it all the Sunshine Dishcloth. I have several more coming soon!

  • Reusable Coffee Cup (affiliate link)
Abbreviations

CH – Chain
ST(S) – Stitch(es)
HHDC – Herringbone Half Double Crochet
SC – Single Crochet
SLST – Slip Stitch

Notes
  • This pattern uses Standard US Terms and abbreviations.
  • Finished cozy measures 3.5 inches tall and 4.5 inches wide. Measurements are taken at the center and after cozy is slightly stretched.
  • You can easily adjust this pattern by measuring your cup where you want the cozy to be and then chaining until you reach that length. Be sure your chain is an odd number.
  • At the end of your first row, you will slip stitch to the first HHDC to form a circle. You will work the rest of the pattern in the round.
  • You will be placing your SC into the HHDC from the previous round & your HHDC will be placed in the SC from the previous round.
  • When working into your foundation chain, I prefer to work in the back bump.
  • I normally prefer to use foundation stitches but for this pattern and for the cozy to fit snug on the coffee cup, I always chain per pattern instructions.
Special Stitch

Herringbone Half Double Crochet (HHDC): Yarn over, insert your hook into the next stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop, pull that loop through the next loop on your hook (kind of like a slip stitch). This will leave you with two loops on your hook. Yarn over, and pull through both loops.

Pattern

CH 31 (or an odd number)
